The Island Lake Connector Trail allows cyclists, pedestrians, and other residents of Green Oak Township to connect to the Island Lake Recreation Area. The trail sits on a converted railroad bed, and starts in the parking lot of the JCPenney at Green Oak Village Mall. Though less than a mile long, the trail is an important piece towards the completion of the Greater Lake-to-Lake Trail.
Park at the Green Oak Village (JCPenney, 9480 Village Place Blvd, Brighton, MI)
Hard packed gravel trail that is easy to ride and connects Brighton to Island Lake State Park. Easy to miss the east entrance in Island Lake -- be sure to turn before crossing the railroad tracks!
I found this handy connector trail while biking at Island Lake. It led to the back of the parking lot of the Green Oak Village shopping center. Follow around to the left, skirting the parking lot, past the Panera and you can find the Fieldcrest Trail which will take you to the residential areas along US-23 south to Silver Lake Road. If I lived in that area, this connector would be my main access to good biking. Although gravel, it was hard-packed and smoother than the actual paved trail at Island Lake. Slopes are gentle. This trail parallels the train tracks and the Island Lake side terminates a stone’s throw from the Dodge Picnic area in Island Lake.
