Palatka-to-Lake Butler State Trail

Keystone Heights to Palatka Segment

August, 2024 by 85osprey

I rode this a couple of weeks ago, starting at the Florahome Trailhead, approximately 10.5 miles east of the Keystone Heights Trailhead. This segment is in real good condition, although there are quite a few tree limbs hanging down that need to be trimmed back. Even with an early start, most of the trail was under the Sun. It is approximately 12 miles from Florahome to the end of the paved trail, a few miles west of Palatka. I've now ridden the entire paved section from Hampton to Palatka, approximately 31.5 miles. Surprised at how lightly traveled this trail is compared to the Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail which is only 14.5 miles in length.

Palatka-to-St. Augustine State Trail

Nice Trail

August, 2024 by gerbie53

Did not ride the complete trail but it’s August in Florida so… We did enjoy the part we rode from the nice little park in Elkton to East Palatka. I wish we could have crossed the St John’s River but it was just a bit too far. The next time we’re in the area we can complete the journey!

Lehigh Greenway Rail Trail

Great Trail!

August, 2024 by gerbie53

I can’t say enough good things about this trail. Yes there were some rough patches along the way but that can be expected with asphalt. Overall beauty was great nice facilities along the way. My grandson and I rode the complete trail and back also rode the spur trail up and over the bridge which was fun. We will be back when visiting St Augustine.

Timucuan Trail

Wonderful ride!!

Since moving to Fernandina Beach from the Florida west coast, we had been looking for a good trail at a decent length. This is a perfect route with very few driveways and the ability to really get your heart rate up. Plus, the scenery is amazing! We are in love!

Lehigh Greenway Rail Trail

Great trail for skating

June, 2024 by brookeypav

Skated the entire trail plus the new section not shown in the map. Amazing asphalt for skating on in-lines and outdoor quads. Did 19 miles overall. Very green and beautiful. Lots of amenities on the trail. Everyone was friendly. Just a great gem of a trail.

Imeson parking lot under construction

June, 2024 by kevievn

We went last week and the Imeson lot was under construction. Had to go to the one near Camp Milton. Too bad this isn't listed on any site. Otherwise the trail is in great shape. Nice smooth asphalt.

S-Line Urban Greenway

S-line appears to be holding its own, but has never expanded east across Bolivard street.....sorta dead ends. Noted lack of signs. Has been connected to the new Emerald Trail, which ends at the old Union RR station just west of the downtown area. Crossing Kings Road is a thrill we could do without.

Black Creek Trail

Disappointing

June, 2024 by mlafferty54

I had an appointment in the area so decided to combine a ride. Not worth the trouble. The trail is poorly maintained and the long section of wooden bridge is old, warped and teeth-chattering. Traffic noise made conditions worse. Overall an unpleasant ride. I hope NE Florida will up its trail game some day.

Palatka-to-Lake Butler State Trail

Clay

Rode this trail from Keystone Heights east for about 12 miles (6 out and back) years ago not long after it opened. Today, I rode west from the trail head in Keystone Heights (located on SR 100 one block west of SR 21 between the CVS and Wendy's). The trail went 9 miles west toward Lake Butler before it ended at Navarre St in Hampton. There is a decent sized green space area off the road for parking if wanting to begin the ride at this end. The first three miles from K.H. had quite a few road crossings and then the next six miles had a few more. Most of this section was shaded (I started at 8:30). There were a handful of cyclists, one runner, and one walker with a baby stroller. Going east from K.H., the first couple of miles had many road crossings. Afterward, most were dirt roads leading to people's property. Three miles from the trail head is the Keystone Soccer Club and six miles is a Sunoco Store for those who might need bathroom facilities. After that, there was nothing until the Florahome Trailhead at 11 miles. This is where I turned around and headed back for a 40 mile ride. This section of the ride was barely shaded (after 10:00 by this time) and I didn't pass any cyclists and only a few walkers/runners. This was surprising. However, I did come across at the Florahome trail head a small group of cyclists that I rode back with. That was nice. Overall, the pavement that I rode was in excellent condition. Next time I ride this trail, I'll probably start at Florahome and ride to Palatka and back.

Wonderful trail. Lots of shade over 2/3 of the trail.

Palatka-to-St. Augustine State Trail

decent skate trail

May, 2024 by brookeypav

This u a decent quality trail for quad & in-line skating. Skated from the Palatka end to the St.Augustine end near 95. It’s about 42 miles both ways for me. The bridge is difficult on skates but otherwise, the quality is fine. I enjoyed Hastings a lot…although watch out for wind beforehand because that open section can be brutal on a windy day. Otherwise, the worst part is the highway intersection. Saw a copperhead about a mile from the St.Augustine end so watch for snakes !
