We started at the Forestville Dam County Park and rode north to Sturgeon Bay. After a nice lunch we headed back to the park. Overall a 26 mile RT. The trail is in good shape with gravel and stone dust most of the way. Once near Sturgeon the trail follows roadside for 2-3 miles.
Fun ride through the woods. The trail is in much better condition than it was a few years ago. There are a lot of wooden board walks over the swampy areas. The trail is tough in spots, we were glad we had wider tires and stable bikes
Very Cute little trail to try out if you are doing the friendship trail. It definitely adds some light to the experience! Small easy ride
One of the best trails I have risen around here so far. Great distance that takes you through all sorts of different scenery and is easy to ride!
The trail has some nice parts , however it goes through town a lot and some parts are not clearly marked which way to go. Some parts are washed out so can be difficult to keep steady in those areas.
Rode the trail south to north. Quite not much traffic. Lots of stop signs for cross roads. Flat the whole way thru farm land and small towns. Kind of boring in some ways.
We really enjoyed riding on this trail. It was very scenic and well maintained.
Editing my review to indicate “destination”. Denmark has an exceptional place to eat and have a beer… Schuster’s Arcade. It’s been open 115 years… highly recommend! Now we will bike the trail back to our car.
My wife and I just biked the trail. While we have been on more scenic rail trails, this one is very good. We have not biked on a crushed limestone trail in better condition. A very nice ride.
I was in Sheboygan for a conference & am always on the look out for a good bike ride in new places. I found information on the Old Plank Road Trail from an online search and decided to give it a try. I began at the Sheboygan trailhead and went to Plymouth, a distance of about 14 miles. I found a good spot for lunch and cycled around Plymouth for a while, which was also a good time. I then rode back to Sheboygan, finishing my ride. I read some of the other comments, discussing the trail's proximity to busy WI Route 23. I understand the comments, but the trail's location is sufficiently distant from the highway where I didn't think it was an issue.
I had a thoroughly enjoyable ride, trail was not crowded and was in good condition overall. The closer I got to Plymouth, there appeared to be more bumps, and overgrowth along the edges, but was still good. I guess everyone appreciates nature type trails (as I do too), however I also consider the importance of trails that serve as commuting trails between towns, etc. Overall I give it a thumbs up.
Just road this trail for the first time. Short drive from Sheboygan and well worth it. Well marked so easy to follow and most of the trail is wide enough for side by side riding. Several bridges, two really high ones and very scenery. Crushed rock is very hard but we did air down the tires for excellent traction. Our speed was mostly around 15mph but we did reach 20 a few times. Nicely designed and well maintained!
