Carville Levee Trail

Carville Levee Trail

May, 2024 by bobbyridenourjr

This is a nice ride if you’re in the area but wouldn’t travel very far to make this ride. We found a parking area on the South end of the trail. Parking area was on the river side of the levee, so don’t miss it if you’re looking for a place to park! The trail began as smooth pavement but turned into hard packed gravel after about a 1/2 mile, so I wouldn’t recommend rollerblades on this trail. blades.

Not the longest by far, but not a bad little trail.

Nice trail ride

Paved. Nice trail ride. There is no shade, but it’s clean & smooth. Following the Mississippi River was pretty! I liked it.

Pontchartrain Lakefront Trail

Relaxing

Nice trail for walking or biking. Great if you just want to get out and meander along the lake. There are little spots along the way to sit and rest if you need. Very quiet, very safe.

Lovely Ride Along the Lake

May, 2023 by jimmacika

This is a well-paved trail that you ride for 24 miles round trip if you start at one end do a turnaround at the other end. It consistently has low traffic and is completely safe. If you need a diversion from looking constantly at the lake, you can take one of the paved access paths over the levee to get a gander at the stately homes overlooking the levee path. The only caveat if you're on a bike is that there is absolutely nothing to block the wind coming off the lake if indeed it is one of those windy days. On one of our hot summer days with the oppressive heat and spirit-crushing humidity, however, some breeze is quite welcome. There are several places to park your car along the trail so access is quite easy. Enjoy!

Incredible Distance Trail!

April, 2023 by jimmacika

The three best things about this trail are its distance, its surface, and the fact that it’s non-interrupted by any cross-traffic.

It’s a 50 mile trail along the Mississippi that allows you to really stretch your legs or you can turn around at anytime to make it a shorter fitness ride. It’s asphalt surface is very smooth and while there are some driveways over the trail that lead to various marine interests, really you can pedal continuously without stopping. This is an under appreciated jewel of a trail. The only drawback is that when leaving from Audubon Park, bathrooms are scarce; the closest one is 11.5 miles away in Kenner Rivertown. After that they are more frequent.

Baton Rouge Levee Bike Path

Asphalt trail was great

April, 2023 by gary.heissler_tl

Got on the trail at Tiger Stadium and rode 10 miles south to the Casino which was all asphalt and very smooth. MS river was on the right and mostly visible from the trail. Interestingly, the trail goes through a pasture of cows and there was cow manure on the trail that we had to maneuver around. Beyond the Casino, the trail is gravel. About 4 miles down the gravel portion we ran into a gate with posted signs that beyond it was private property. We ended up turning around and was unable to complete the trail.

Baton Rouge Levee Bike Path

A view of the Mississippi River

February, 2023 by vc2019

Enjoyed a tour of the USS Kidd then to this trail which runs right next to the museum, with great views of the river , saw a few eagles, Tiger stadium and of course a wastewater plant- I think plants and trails go together? It was windy but well maintained trail.

Baton Rouge Levee Bike Path

The Mississippi is always great

February, 2023 by barbscondo

Rode part of this trail on 2/5/2023 on our Ebikes. If you look on the trail map from the start of the trail in Baton Rouge to the left hand turn where you see the 327 in a small square is 9 miles. The trail is flat and you can see the river all the way. It was a perfect 69 day but this trail would be hot if the weather was not cool. Absolutely no shade. But we find the Mississippi fascinating and it was a great ride. If you are in an RV you can camp at the Farr Equestrian Center and RV park. Really nice with Electric and water and you can hop on your bike at camp and hit the trail. Highly recommend.

Mississippi River Trail (Louisiana)

MRT

I live in New Orleans and have this trail several times. It’s a great trail with views of the “Mighty Mississippi” all the way. Watching the huge ships pass by on their way to who knows where is a nice adder. There is NO SHADE so suggest riding early in the morning and BRING WATER.

Nice Trail on Top of Levee

January, 2023 by normanbowers

I rode the east section on north side of river. Trail is smooth with a few low volume driveway crossings. Trail has nice views due to elevation, but is exposed to wind and sun. The section I rode had no shade, water or restrooms. I wish there were mile markers. Parking available at Jefferson Park and across the river road near the flea market.

Pontchartrain Lakefront Trail

Great riding trail but no shade or water

January, 2023 by normanbowers

The surface is smooth and straight except for crossings of pumping station outlets. Long straight sections allow for plenty of speed if desired. The ride and view is kind of boring as there is just the shore on one side and a levy on the land side. There are portable toilets at the various parking areas. The downside of this trail is no shade or water.
