Carville Levee Trail

Carville Levee Trail

May, 2024 by bobbyridenourjr

This is a nice ride if you’re in the area but wouldn’t travel very far to make this ride. We found a parking area on the South end of the trail. Parking area was on the river side of the levee, so don’t miss it if you’re looking for a place to park! The trail began as smooth pavement but turned into hard packed gravel after about a 1/2 mile, so I wouldn’t recommend rollerblades on this trail. blades.

Asphalt trail was great

April, 2023 by gary.heissler_tl

Got on the trail at Tiger Stadium and rode 10 miles south to the Casino which was all asphalt and very smooth. MS river was on the right and mostly visible from the trail. Interestingly, the trail goes through a pasture of cows and there was cow manure on the trail that we had to maneuver around. Beyond the Casino, the trail is gravel. About 4 miles down the gravel portion we ran into a gate with posted signs that beyond it was private property. We ended up turning around and was unable to complete the trail.

Baton Rouge Levee Bike Path

A view of the Mississippi River

February, 2023 by vc2019

Enjoyed a tour of the USS Kidd then to this trail which runs right next to the museum, with great views of the river , saw a few eagles, Tiger stadium and of course a wastewater plant- I think plants and trails go together? It was windy but well maintained trail.

Baton Rouge Levee Bike Path

The Mississippi is always great

February, 2023 by barbscondo

Rode part of this trail on 2/5/2023 on our Ebikes. If you look on the trail map from the start of the trail in Baton Rouge to the left hand turn where you see the 327 in a small square is 9 miles. The trail is flat and you can see the river all the way. It was a perfect 69 day but this trail would be hot if the weather was not cool. Absolutely no shade. But we find the Mississippi fascinating and it was a great ride. If you are in an RV you can camp at the Farr Equestrian Center and RV park. Really nice with Electric and water and you can hop on your bike at camp and hit the trail. Highly recommend.

Dawson Creek Greenway

This is a scenic well maintained path but not really long enough for bike riding by itself. It does connect to other neighborhoods that will allow you to ride all throughout the south side of town.

Dawson Creek Greenway

This is a really nicely maintained and pretty path for locals to walk. The trail really isn't long enough for a decent bike ride by itself, but it does allow you to connect to neighborhoods that will lead to other places to ride in around town.

Baton Rouge Levee Bike Path

Great trail out of traffic

October, 2021 by wiliermdb

Trailink needs to update the info on this trail. As of 10/30/2021 the levee path runs north from L'auberge Casino in to downtown Baton Rouge. Path is fully paved for 12.5 miles one way. Once you're south of Brightside Dr. the walker, jogger traffic thins out and the only area to use caution is between the cattle crossings.

You can access the path from several locations. Parking at L'auberge Casino, Farr Park, LSU Vet School or downtown. You can add some miles and scenery by hopping off at the Vet School and take a spin through campus, around the lakes and back. Hit one of the restaurants across from the football stadium and then finish your ride.

Great for kids or those that don't want to deal with vehicle traffic.

Trail going South

July, 2021 by brcorwin2

Took a nice ride Sunday. The paved trail actually goes about 8 miles down river from Equestrian Center that is not shown on map here. All the way to the L’Auberge Casino. The trail head at the BREC Equestrian Center has plenty of free parking, restrooms, drinking water fountain and a free air compressor.

Weekday Ride

May, 2016 by bdabing69

Couldn't find a place to park at either end. Didn't want to pay to park. Trail was nice and very good views of the river. Allot of children on field trips by U.S.Kidd. Overall OK for a beginner.

Baton Rouge Levee Bike Path

good for families

September, 2015 by juliereads4fun

Started at Farr Park and ended with pizza at Schlitz & Giggles. 10 or 11 y.o is probably youngest child who'd enjoy this, esp if they have a decent bike. It was a warm Labor Day, but always a nice breeze in the levee path.
